My biggest complaint with Meerschaum

Is it's SO easy to damage one, either by hitting it against something accidentally or smoking it "too hot".
I love the flavor (or lack thereof) that it imparts to tobacco... but bang for the buck, I  may stick with my cobs.

My first one was an expensive one. And I made the mistake of putting it with the stem sticking off the side of the table while I was on the apartment patio smoking. My room-mate at the time walked outside and brushed against it and it did not survive the fall to the patio floor.
Now I don't buy expensive meerschaum, usually the cheaper mass produced stuff out of Turkey.

I've got one that I am still leery of putting the tobacco into as I love the look of it but also want it to get that aged appearance. I tend to smoke hot, so I have a sneaky suspicion I will end up cracking it if I use it too much. I have already done it to one one of my "junker" meerschaums.
