James Barber’s Tobacconists was founded in 1867 by the owners Great Grandfather, Joseph. Joseph had plantations and tobacco stemming factories in Kentucky USA.
The tobacco was shipped to Liverpool in the UK and then transported by train to Otley where it was manufactured into twist.
The business was taken over by his son Fred Barber and then passed on to his son Jack. James took over from his father Jack in 1980. James has since travelled to Cuba, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, China and all over Europe visiting tobacco plantations, Cigar factories and pipe factories.
Today, James specialises in Alfred Dunhill pipes and carries one of the largest selections of Dunhill Pipes in the world. James visits the Dunhill factory in London on a regular basis where he personally selects the Dunhill pipes.
